How it works

Four steps, about six minutes

There is no account, no email box and no paywall. The whole thing runs inside your browser tab.

  1. Read all 100 items

They are grouped into six themes so the list never feels like an endless wall of text.

  2. Tick what you have done

Only tick something if you have actually done it. Half-truths only make the number meaningless.

  3. Get your score

Your score is simply 100 minus the number of boxes ticked. Tick 32 items and you score 68.

  4. Read the breakdown

See which of the six categories moved your number the most, and how you compare with your age group.

Score guide

What your number actually means

Nine bands, from “barely left the house” to “wrote the book”. None of them is a grade.

Rice Purity Test score bands
ScoreBandWhat it usually reflects
98–100Untouched snowAlmost nothing on the list has happened yet. Extremely common under 16.
94–97Wide-eyedA few firsts logged, nothing dramatic. Still early days.
85–93Quietly curiousNormal teenage territory — dating, a first drink, a broken curfew.
73–84Lightly seasonedThe typical first-year university range. Social life switched on.
60–72Comfortably averageThe single most common band for people aged 18 to 22.
45–59Been aroundA full spread of experience across most categories.
30–44Genuinely experiencedVery little on the list is unfamiliar. Common past 25.
15–29Certified wild cardFew boxes left unticked. You have collected the stories.
0–14Wrote the bookAlmost every item ticked. Statistically rare and usually exaggerated.
Benchmarks

Average score by age group

Scores drop with age for one boring reason: you have simply had more years to tick more boxes.

Typical self-reported score ranges
AgeCommon rangeRough averageWhy
13–1785–10088Most items are simply not available yet.
18–2245–8568The widest spread of any group — university changes everything.
23–2935–7055Habits settle; travel, work and money items start ticking.
30–3928–6246A decade of adult life accumulates quietly.
40+22–5840Lifetime totals, not recent behaviour.

These figures are pooled estimates from publicly published score distributions on purity-test sites. They are self-reported, unverified and skewed by who chooses to take an internet quiz. Treat them as rough context, not statistics.

What this test does not measure

Not your morality. Not your maturity. Not your worth, your health, or how good a partner or friend you are. It is a checklist invented as an icebreaker, and it stayed popular because comparing numbers with friends is fun — not because it is accurate.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

What is the Rice Purity Test?

It is a 100-item self-graded checklist of common life experiences. It started at Rice University as a light-hearted icebreaker for new students and spread across the internet from there. You tick everything you have done and your score is 100 minus the number of ticks.

What is a good Rice Purity Test score?

There is no good or bad score, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. For context only: teenagers commonly land between 85 and 100, university students between 45 and 85, and adults over 25 between 25 and 65. A score is a snapshot of experience, not a report card.

Is the Rice Purity Test accurate?

No, and it was never designed to be. It is not a validated psychological instrument, it has no clinical use, and it has never been peer reviewed. It is entertainment.

Are my answers saved or shared?

No. Every answer stays in your own browser using local storage on your device, purely so you can close the tab and finish later. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is linked to you, and pressing Reset wipes it immediately. See our privacy policy.

What is the average Rice Purity Test score?

Reported averages cluster around 65 to 68 for people aged 18 to 22, around 88 for under-18s, and around 40 to 50 for people over 30. These come from self-reported public distributions rather than official research, so read them loosely.

Can I retake the test?

As many times as you like. Your progress saves automatically, so you can close the tab mid-way and pick up where you left off. The Reset button clears everything instantly.
